illustrator is a vector based program, meaning mathematical nonsense. but these can be scaled as big as a building without ever losing resolution.
photoshop is a raster based program, meaning pixels. example take your avatar and making a sticker out of it. from the current size to a 3"x4" print, whats gonna happen??? pixelated caca.
i hope that helps.

you can torrent the creative suite for free. if you go to the adobe website and download the trial versions of ps and ai i can email you the crack program. really easy only hard part is waiting for the programs to actually download to your computer. Since illustrator is vector based it is ideal for designing print materials because once it is vectored it can do so many things. Plus when you plug your tablet in there are a bunch of cool tricks and stuff on illustrator. makes thing alot easier to trace if you scan something in etc. i wish i had a tablet. and for anyone else trying to learn here is a site with a bunch of video tutorials i have learned some cool stuff www.video-tutes.com/Tute_details.php?id=515
